Mira has been exploring fabric arts since the late 1960's begin-
ning with batik and tie-dye. She works on ready made clothing and scarves made of natural fibres such as cotton, hemp, rayon and silk. Mira enjoys the dye process, using colour to create a design or a “ground” for hand painted images. The fibre reactive dyes bond with the fabric.
Her current work includes shibori - stitched or folded resists, tie-dye, block printing and hand painting. She cuts her own stencils and soft lino blocks for her original designs. Each image is created by hand with fabric paints, not screen or laser printed.
Mira is inspired by forms found in nature, sea life, and pre- historic art.
