Hedi Kovacs

Hedi is Hungarian born, living in Canada since 1975. Trained in Graphic Design in Toronto's George Brown College she soon realized her dislike for commercial art and turned to fine art instead. Largely self-taught with the occasional workshop, she used oil exclusively for the first ten years. In it was her true calling, giving herself completely to bountiful colors, subjects, shapes and forms.

Later on she turned to experiment with numerous media. Her latest interest is egg tempera in the tradition of old masters, but that has yet to be perfected.

Drawing has always come naturally for Hedi since early childhood. She often returns to that media for its comforting familiarity.

Living on Pender Island allows Hedi to be in surroundings that inspire without effort in ways that dreams are made of.
